Psalm 20:7
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
It’s June 18, 2020 and this morning my heart was extremely heavy for our country. As I read the above verse I am reminded that we serve an awesome God who is all powerful, full mercy and love.
I have prayed quite a bit lately about what we are seeing in news; all of the riots and violence seem to be all the news is reporting. We have been overwhelmed by the the threat and fear of Covid-19, and while our attention has been so conveniently focused on staying well, lurking in the background the seeds of chaos have been spouting.
Throughout America there are very strong and well organized political forces at work who truly believe that the destruction of America is the best path. They believe once America collapses they will have the opportunity to establish a socialist type country.
They use tragic events like the George Floyd shooting to stir up and radicalize masses of people.
What we have been seeing is not organic, it’s not random, but it is well orchestrated, well financed and very deliberate.
As a pastor, a husband, a fellow American and a Texan I am called to speak up.
I don’t want to come across as some radical, then again I don’t want to pretend everything is fine .
I feel the very first thing we must all do is pray. I believe our God hears our prayers and He is very aware of the plight that is sweeping across our land. Please pray for the Lord to transform the hearts of the people and bring a true repentance.
In the 1960’s things got very radical and it looked like America was going to have a civil war. Around that time God moved His Spirit across our land and the Jesus movement was formed, and I believe it impacted many young people and hearts were transformed. I believe that move of God’s Spirit really had an impact on the future.
Here we are today and Satan is still using the same old tactics. Things look pretty bleak and people are thinking the worse. I don’t know what is going to happen; things could just totally spiral downward and our country will experience a lot of unrest, social upheaval, and could fall into financial collapse; we could even see a civil war.
God could also be preparing us for a great move of His Spirit.
I do know what the Bible tells us, in 2 Chronicles 7:14 is says “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”.
We are at a fork in the road; one path promises hope, life and prosperity for our county and the other path promises more division, more conflict, famine, disease and death.
I can’t help but think of how devastated Jeremiah was on witnessing the destruction of Jerusalem. Lamentations 2:11 My eyes fail with tears, My heart is troubled; My bile is poured on the ground because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,
because the children and the infants faint in the streets of the city.
Throughout the book of Jeremiah he clearly warns the people to repent, and tells them that it does not need to end this way. The people did not listen, they did not repent and a great destruction came upon them.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer said
“The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children”.
Please join me and pray for our country.
I pray God moves one more time on the hearts of the people, so we may leave our children a good land that is filled God’s love.
God bless
Pastor Michael
